Executive Alignment Achieved | 3 Core Value Streams Mapped | 30+ Leaders Engaged in Change Enablement
In a bold move toward modernization and agility, the largest telecommunications provider in Sri Lanka—majority-owned by the Government—embarked on an enterprise-level Agile transformation in partnership with BAT. Recognizing the scale and complexity of the organization, the engagement was designed to be deeply strategic and highly contextualized.
The journey began with an executive workshop, aligning leadership on the purpose and possibilities of agility within a legacy environment. This was followed by value stream mapping of three mission-critical functions:
- Lead to Contract
- Order to Fulfill
- Concept to Market
These sessions not only revealed systemic inefficiencies but also served as a foundation to identify opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and simplification.
A core group of General Managers, Deputy General Managers, and functional leaders were then taken through a tailored series of workshops focused on Agile mindset, principles, and practices. The emphasis was on enabling them to act as internal change agents, capable of applying Agile ways of working in their day-to-day operations.
What sets this transformation apart is its leader-led change approach—participants are expected to pilot practices in their own contexts, experimenting with planning rhythms, visual work management, and iterative delivery, all while aligning with the larger organizational objectives.
As the engagement continues, early results are already surfacing in improved collaboration, enhanced visibility of work, and stronger cross-team coordination. The initiative is paving the way for a long-term, scalable shift—modernizing how Sri Lanka’s national telco delivers value to its customers.
